Review

Bono has a sour voice and tries to hide this by acting very special through the whole concert. U2 is not very well known in Belgium, but in front of the stage stand a lot of people who know U2 already, mainly Dutch people who have seen the previous year at the Pinkpop Festival 1981 in Geleen.

Bono tries to attrack the audience during the first song Gloria, he mentions The Edge, then I Threw A Brick Through A Window - A Day Without Me are played. "What can i say? Thank you! Were any of you here yesterday?" (Bono means at the Torhout Festival) "It's OK. This is An Cat Dubh, this the black cat". Bono mentions Adam as "the bass player" "We've been waiting for you" get's cheering and loud handclapping. An Cat Dubh changes slightly into Into The Heart.

During Rejoice Bono jumps to the railing and stands some time on it. He jumps back on stage and then he takes the white flag he took from a Dutch Girl, Hilde Folkersma: "I was 14 then and travelled all the way from Groningen in the north of Holland. I painted a flag (an old bedsheet from my mum) with in red U2 on it, and Bono took it on stage. Since I was not allowed to take a stick with me on the festivalterrain, I tried to find a branch of a tree and succeeded." Then he was with the flag halfway to the PA tower and he returns to the stage.

The Cry goes over in The Electric Co and during the guitar solo Bono climbs from a ladder into the left front stage tower just below the rof of the stage. There he adds a snippet of Send In The Clowns. At the end of the song he climbs down with some help. Then he looks at the top of the tower an d you can see him think and he says silently "Never again".

I Fall Down is always an easy song for Bono because he has to concentrate on playing guitar while Edge is playing piano. I Will Follow starts with Bono smiling, he wipes the sweat of his head with a yellow U2 t-shirt (probably from a fan), he goes to the lower left part of the stage, sits down on a monitor, runs over the catwalk to the PA tower, takes a boyscout hat from someone in the audience, wears it and walks back to the stage, comes back to the catwalk and puts the hat over the camera.

Out Of Control is also full of action: he shakes hands with some fans, lets some fans yell in his microphone, dances with the assistant girl from tv, receives some flowers from Hilde Folkersma: "I also presented Bono a bunch of pink carnations (anjers in dutch) and he accepted them and then picked the flowers out of the bunch and gave them to about 10 girls at the first row. This was shown on tv later that evening."

After a small break U2 return with 11 O'Clock Tick Tock where fans yell again in his microphone. The clapping is very loud during this song. Give Peace a Chance is also sung by a lot of people. The Ocean and Fire conclude the concert.

Don't ask me where to find any of the mentioned recordings. I don't have these recordings.
